Callidiellum villosulum
A small longhorn beetle (Cerambycidae: Cerambycinae: Callidiini) characterized by sexual dimorphism in mouthpart morphology. Adult females possess larger labial and maxillary palps with more developed sensilla basiconica IV, sensilla campaniformia, and sensilla chaetica II, structures associated with oviposition site selection. Males exhibit more developed sensilla basiconica I, potentially involved in mate recognition. The species has been subject to detailed scanning electron microscopy studies of its chemosensory and mechanosensory mouthpart structures.
Gyponana serpenta
Leafhopper
Gyponana cf. serpenta is a leafhopper species in the family Cicadellidae, notable for producing distinctive brochosomes—complex protein-lipid nanoparticles that coat its body surface. The brochosomes of Gyponana species feature more angled, geometric pits compared to those of other leafhopper genera. These nanoparticles render the cuticle superhydrophobic and anti-reflective, properties that have attracted significant research interest for bioinspired materials design.
Nepoidea
Nepoidea is a superfamily of aquatic true bugs comprising two families: Belostomatidae (giant water bugs) and Nepidae (water scorpions). These are the largest-bodied members of the infraorder Nepomorpha and function as top predators in freshwater ecosystems. A distinctive morphological trait is the reduction and concealment of antennae in grooves behind the eyes, an adaptation to submerged aquatic life. The antennal sensilla exhibit remarkable structural diversity, with 11 morphological types identified including mechanosensilla, thermo-hygrosensilla, and olfactory sensilla that facilitate environmental sensing and prey detection.
