booklice, barklice
Trichadenotecnum is a large genus of barklice in the family Psocidae, containing over 200 described species. It is distinguished from related genera by forming a monophyletic group with highly variable genital morphology, particularly in males. The genus exhibits diverse reproductive strategies, including both biparental sexual reproduction and obligate or facultative parthenogenesis (thelytoky) depending on the species.
Triclistus emarginalus
Triclistus emarginalus is a species of ichneumon wasp in the family Ichneumonidae. The species was described by Thomas Say in 1829. It is recorded from several localities in central Canada. As a member of the genus Triclistus, it is presumed to be a koinobiont endoparasitoid of Lepidoptera larvae, though direct host records for this species are not documented.
Trirhabda borealis
Boreal Goldenrod Leaf Beetle
Trirhabda borealis is a skeletonizing leaf beetle in the family Chrysomelidae. It is a specialist herbivore associated with goldenrod (Solidago) and has been studied for its movement behavior in fragmented versus continuous habitats. The species occurs in North America, with records from western Canada and the northern United States.
Upis ceramboides
Roughened Darkling Beetle, kökskörven
Upis ceramboides is a fire-dependent darkling beetle that colonizes burned deciduous trees, particularly birch. The species has declined in southern Sweden due to fire suppression and modern forestry, persisting mainly in northern Scandinavia, Alaska, and Canada. Adults exhibit extreme freeze tolerance, surviving temperatures well below freezing through unique biochemical adaptations including xylomannan antifreeze and threitol. Larvae develop in fire-damaged inner bark rich in fungal mycelia, with a two-to-three-year life cycle.
Vertagopus pseudocinereus
Vertagopus pseudocinereus is a species of elongate springtail in the family Isotomidae, described from Arctic and northern temperate regions. It belongs to the order Entomobryomorpha, characterized by relatively long antennae and a slender body form compared to the more compact Poduromorpha. The species has been recorded across circumpolar and northern montane regions.
Walckenaeria castanea
Walckenaeria castanea is a species of dwarf spider (family Linyphiidae) first described by Emerton in 1882. It is known from northern North America, with documented occurrences in the United States, Canada, and Greenland. As a member of the sheet-web weavers, it constructs horizontal webs to capture prey. The species is among the smaller spiders in its family, consistent with the 'dwarf spider' common name applied to linyphiids.
Walckenaeria spiralis
Spiraling Sheet-web Weaver
Walckenaeria spiralis is a dwarf spider species in the family Linyphiidae, first described by Emerton in 1882. It belongs to a large genus of small sheet-web weaving spiders distributed across the Holarctic region. The species is known from scattered records across northern North America and the Russian Far North-East, suggesting a boreal distribution pattern.
Xanthorhoe packardata
Packard's Carpet
Xanthorhoe packardata, commonly known as Packard's Carpet, is a North American moth species in the family Geometridae. Described by James Halliday McDunnough in 1945, this species belongs to the diverse carpet moth genus Xanthorhoe. The species has been documented across prairie and boreal regions of Canada and the northern United States, with 265 observations recorded on iNaturalist. As with many Xanthorhoe species, detailed biological information remains limited in the scientific literature.
Xestia okakensis
Okak Cutworm, Okak Dart Moth
Xestia okakensis is a cutworm moth in the family Noctuidae. It was first described by Packard in 1867. The species has two recognized subspecies: X. o. okakensis and X. o. morandi. It occurs across northern regions of North America and Eurasia.
Xestia quieta
Xestia quieta is a noctuid moth distributed across northern boreal and arctic regions of Eurasia and North America. Adults are active in mid-summer, with flight periods recorded in June and July. The species is characterized by a relatively small wingspan of 25–29 mm. Larval host associations remain uncertain, though Empetrum species have been suggested as possible food plants.
Xestia tecta
Xestia tecta is a noctuid moth with a disjunct Holarctic distribution, occurring in boreal Fennoscandia and northwestern Russia in Europe, and across northern Siberia, Alaska, and north-central North America. The species has a two-year life cycle, with adults active from July to August. Males are nocturnal while females are active in the afternoon.
Xylotrechus undulatus
Spruce Zebra Beetle
Xylotrechus undulatus is a longhorned beetle in the family Cerambycidae, described by Thomas Say in 1824. It is commonly known as the Spruce Zebra Beetle, a name reflecting its association with coniferous hosts and likely patterned appearance. The species occurs across northern North America, with records from Canada (Labrador, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland) and presumably extending into the northern United States. As a member of the tribe Clytini, it belongs to a group of cerambycids often associated with woody plants.
Yukonodelphax
Yukonodelphax is a genus of planthoppers in the family Delphacidae, described by Wilson in 1992. The genus belongs to the tribe Delphacini within the subfamily Delphacinae. Members of this genus are small, sap-feeding insects associated with grassland and wetland habitats. Very few observations of this genus exist in biodiversity databases.
Yukonodelphax kendallae
Yukonodelphax kendallae is a species of planthopper in the family Delphacidae, first described by Wilson in 1992. It is a small, winged insect belonging to a group known for their association with grasses and sedges. The species is known from northern North America, with confirmed records from Yukon and Alberta.
Zygiella nearctica
Nearctic Sector Orbweaver
Zygiella nearctica is a boreal orb-weaving spider in the family Araneidae. Like other members of its genus, it constructs a characteristic orb web with a missing sector in the upper portion. The species is native to North America and has been documented across a broad geographic range from coast to coast in Canada, extending southward into the northern United States.
