Acrobasis tricolorella
destructive prune worm, tricolored acrobasis moth
Acrobasis tricolorella is a snout moth (Pyralidae: Phycitinae) described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1878. The species occurs in southern Canada and the northern United States. Adults are active from June to October. Larvae feed on buds and fruits of various Rosaceae and related woody plants, and overwinter in the larval stage.
Ancyloxypha numitor
Least Skipper
Ancyloxypha numitor, commonly known as the least skipper, is a small North American butterfly in the family Hesperiidae. It is distinguished by rounded wings, a slender body, and checkered antennae lacking hooks. The species exhibits weak, fluttering flight reminiscent of Satyrinae butterflies. It completes multiple broods annually and overwinters as a larva.
Boloria selene
Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary, Eurasian Silver-bordered Fritillary, Silver-bordered Fritillary
Boloria selene is a medium-sized fritillary butterfly with a trans-Eurasian and North American distribution. The species exhibits complex population dynamics including bivoltine life cycles with distinct behavioral and developmental differences between spring and summer generations. In Europe it is known as the small pearl-bordered fritillary; in North America it is called the silver-bordered fritillary. The species serves as a grassland habitat indicator and has been extensively studied in the context of conservation management including prescribed fire and grazing regimes.

Banded Sunflower Moth
A small tortricid moth native to North America, the banded sunflower moth is a significant pest of cultivated sunflowers. Adults are active in mid-summer and are attracted to sunflower heads at twilight for egg-laying. The species was transferred from the genus Cochylis to the redefined genus Cochylichroa in 2019 based on phylogenetic analysis.
Estigmene
Ermine Moths
Estigmene is a genus of tiger moths in the family Erebidae, erected by Jacob Hübner in 1820. Species in this genus are native to North and Central America. The genus has undergone taxonomic revision, with many African and Asian species formerly included now separated into different genera. The most well-known species is Estigmene acrea, commonly called the saltmarsh caterpillar or woollybear, which is a widespread generalist herbivore and occasional agricultural pest.
Haploa clymene
Clymene Moth
Haploa clymene, the Clymene moth, is a tiger moth in the subfamily Arctiinae. Adults display distinctive creamy yellow forewings with partial brown-black borders and yellow-orange hindwings with dark spots. The species has one brood per year, with larvae overwintering and maturing in spring and early summer. It is found in eastern North America.
Pyrrharctia isabella
Isabella tiger moth, banded woolly bear, woolly bear, woolly worm
Pyrrharctia isabella is a tiger moth species native to North America, best known for its larval form, the banded woolly bear caterpillar. The caterpillar is recognized by its alternating black and orange-brown bands and has become famous in North American folklore as a supposed predictor of winter weather severity. The species exhibits remarkable freeze tolerance, allowing larvae to survive winter temperatures by producing cryoprotectants that prevent lethal ice crystal formation. Adults are dull yellowish to orangish moths with sparse black wing spotting and bright reddish-orange forelegs.
Rabdophaga rigidae
willow beaked-gall midge
Rabdophaga rigidae is a gall midge in the family Cecidomyiidae that induces characteristic galls in willow terminal buds. The species is native to North America and was formerly thought to occur in eastern Asia, but Asian populations have been reclassified as the distinct species R. salicivora. Larval development occurs within galls, with adults emerging in spring.
Rectiostoma fernaldella
Stenomid Oak Leaf Tier
A small moth in the family Depressariidae, described by Riley in 1889. Adults are active in shady oak habitats during midday and have a single annual generation in California. Larvae are specialized leaf tiers that construct distinctive frass-sealed shelters between two leaves.
Scopula frigidaria
Frigid Wave
Scopula frigidaria is a small geometrid moth distributed across boreal regions of northern Eurasia and North America. Adults have a wingspan of 21–23 mm and are active from late May through June. The species exhibits a univoltine life cycle with larvae feeding exclusively on bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus). Larvae overwinter in the larval stage, with development spanning from July through May of the following year. Two subspecies are recognized: the nominate form and S. f. schoyeni restricted to the Kola Peninsula and Fennoscandia.
