Bembidion versicolor
Bembidion versicolor is a small ground beetle in the family Carabidae, first described by Jacquelin du Val in 1851. The species is distributed across northern North America, with records from Alaska, Canada, and the United States. It is also present on Saint Pierre and Miquelon. As a member of the genus Bembidion, it belongs to a large and diverse group of ground beetles commonly found in varied terrestrial habitats.
Bisnius cephalicus
Bisnius cephalicus is a species of rove beetle in the family Staphylinidae, first described by Casey in 1915. It belongs to the subtribe Philonthina within the tribe Staphylinini. The species has been documented in Canada across multiple provinces including Alberta, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Ontario, and Quebec. As a member of the large and diverse genus Bisnius, this species shares the general characteristics of predatory rove beetles, though specific ecological details remain poorly documented in published literature.
Blissus occiduus
Western Chinch Bug
Blissus occiduus, the western chinch bug, is a phloem-feeding true bug (Hemiptera: Blissidae) that is a significant pest of warm-season turfgrasses, particularly buffalograss and zoysiagrass. The species exhibits strong host preference hierarchies, with buffalograss being the most preferred host followed by zoysiagrass, though it can survive and reproduce on a broad range of grasses including agronomic crops. Field studies have documented inconsistent control with neonicotinoid insecticides, with thiamethoxam showing particularly rapid degradation in buffalograss tissues compared to imidacloprid and clothianidin.

The species is adapted to cold, high-latitude environments. It is among the less-studied North American bumble bees, with relatively few documented observations.
Brachygluta luniger
Brachygluta luniger is a small rove beetle in the family Staphylinidae. The species has been recorded from eastern North America, with distribution records spanning from Canada to the southeastern United States. As with other members of the genus Brachygluta, it is a poorly known species with limited published biological information. The genus belongs to the diverse rove beetle fauna, one of the largest families of beetles.
Brassicogethes cleominis
pollen beetle
Brassicogethes cleominis is a pollen beetle in the family Nitidulidae, a group of beetles commonly associated with flowers and pollen feeding. The species was described by Easton in 1959. It is known from North America, with records from the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, and Manitoba. As a member of the genus Brassicogethes, it is likely associated with plants in the family Cleomaceae, suggested by its specific epithet.
Bruchus affinis
seed beetle
Bruchus affinis is a univoltine seed beetle native to the western Palaearctic Region, first recorded in North America in Canada (British Columbia, Ontario, Québec) before 2007. It was likely introduced via imported Lathyrus seeds for planting. The species develops inside seeds of Lathyrus species, with adults feeding on pollen and nectar. Development from egg to adult requires approximately 60 days. The parasitoid Dinarmus basalis has been recorded causing about 10% mortality in Canadian populations.
Buprestis haemorrhoidalis
Buprestis haemorrhoidalis is a Palearctic jewel beetle (family Buprestidae) described by Herbst in 1780. The species was erroneously reported as established in British Columbia, Canada, based on a misidentified specimen of the native North American species Buprestis subornata. This misidentification propagated through multiple literature sources before correction. The species remains native to Europe and Asia with no confirmed establishment in North America.
Byrrhus concolor
Two-colored Pill Beetle
Byrrhus concolor is a species of pill beetle in the family Byrrhidae, a group of small beetles known for their ability to roll into a compact ball when disturbed. The species occurs in northern North America, with records from Canada including Saskatchewan, Yukon Territory, and the Northwest Territories. The common name "Two-colored Pill Beetle" suggests distinctive coloration, though specific details of this pattern are not well documented in available sources. Pill beetles in this family are typically associated with mossy or damp habitats.
Byrrhus cyclophorus
Ringed Pill Beetle
Byrrhus cyclophorus is a species of pill beetle in the family Byrrhidae, commonly known as the Ringed Pill Beetle. It is found in North America, with distribution records from Canada including Alberta, Manitoba, and Labrador. As a member of Byrrhidae, it shares the family characteristic of rolling into a compact pill-like shape when disturbed.
Calathus opaculus
Calathus opaculus is a species of ground beetle in the family Carabidae. It occurs in North America, with records from Canada and the United States. As a member of the genus Calathus, it belongs to a diverse group of more than 150 species, most of which are ground-dwelling beetles.
Caliroa lunata
Caliroa lunata is a species of sawfly in the family Tenthredinidae, distributed in eastern Canada including Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and Ontario. The genus Caliroa includes larvae commonly known as 'oak-skeletonizing sawflies' due to their feeding habit of consuming leaf tissue between veins. As with other members of this genus, the larvae likely feed on oak (Quercus) and related host plants, though specific host records for this species are not well documented.
Callidium frigidum
Callidium frigidum is a species of longhorned beetle in the family Cerambycidae, described by Casey in 1912. The species belongs to the tribe Callidiini within the subfamily Cerambycinae. It is known from northern North America, with records from Canada including Newfoundland, Ontario, and Québec. As a member of the genus Callidium, it is associated with coniferous trees, though specific host associations for this species have not been documented in the available sources.
Calligrapha amator
Ontario Calligrapha
Calligrapha amator, commonly known as the Ontario Calligrapha, is a leaf beetle species in the family Chrysomelidae. It was described by W.J. Brown in 1945. The species is found in North America, with confirmed records from Ontario and Québec in Canada.
Calligrapha apicalis
Calligrapha apicalis is a leaf beetle species in the family Chrysomelidae, described by Notman in 1919. It is native to North America, with confirmed records from Ontario and Québec in Canada. Like other members of the genus Calligrapha, it likely exhibits the characteristic dome-like body shape and patterned elytra typical of this group.
Calligrapha dolosa
Calligrapha dolosa is a species of leaf beetle in the family Chrysomelidae, first described by W.J. Brown in 1945. It belongs to a genus known for highly host-specific feeding relationships with particular plant genera. The species is recorded from eastern Canada, specifically Ontario and Québec. Like other members of Calligrapha, it likely exhibits the genus-characteristic dome-shaped body and patterned elytra, though specific diagnostic features for this species remain poorly documented in accessible literature.
