Mutillidae, commonly known as velvet ants, are a family of solitary wasps comprising over 3,000 described species. Despite their common name, they are not ants but wingless female wasps that resemble large, hairy ants. The family exhibits striking sexual dimorphism: females are apterous (wingless), brightly colored, and possess a powerful sting, while males are winged and generally darker in coloration. Velvet ants are parasitoids of ground-nesting bees and wasps, with females actively searching for host nests to lay eggs on or near the host pupae or larvae. They form one of the world's largest known Müllerian mimicry complexes, with numerous species sharing aposematic red, orange, or yellow and black coloration to warn predators of their potent defensive capabilities.

Milkweed Longhorn Beetles
Tetraopes is a genus of specialized longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae: Lamiinae) distributed from Guatemala to Canada. The genus is defined by extreme host specificity to milkweeds (Asclepias and related genera in Apocynaceae), with larvae feeding on roots and adults feeding on leaves and flowers. All species exhibit aposematic red-and-black coloration advertising their sequestration of cardiac glycosides from host plants. The eyes are completely divided by antennal insertions, giving rise to both the scientific name ("four eyes") and common name "four-eyed milkweed beetle" for some species. The genus represents a classic example of coevolutionary radiation with its host plants.

Cherry Millipedes, flat-backed millipedes
Xystodesmidae is a family of flat-backed millipedes in the order Polydesmida, established by O. F. Cook in 1895. The family comprises over 390 described species across 62 genera, with many additional species remaining undescribed. Members are characterized by broad, compact bodies with prominent paranota (lateral keels), chemical defenses based on hydrogen cyanide and benzaldehyde, and frequent participation in Müllerian mimicry rings. Peak diversity occurs in the Appalachian Mountains, where approximately one-third of species are found.
