Adelphacarus
Adelphacarus is a genus of oribatid mites in the family Adelphacaridae, established by Grandjean in 1952. It belongs to the Palaeosomata, a group of primitive mites characterized by ancestral morphological features. The genus is known from limited records, with Adelphacarus reticulatus described from Iran in 2017 representing a documented species.
Anisodactylus binotatus
common shortspur beetle
A medium-sized ground beetle native to Europe, introduced to New Zealand in 1938 where it has become widely established. Adults measure 10–12.7 mm with distinctive shiny black coloration and a characteristic red spot (or paired spots) on the frons between the eyes. The species exhibits flight capability and has proven to be an exceptionally successful colonist, thriving in both natural and anthropogenic habitats including cultivated fields and urban environments.
Anisodactylus porosus
Anisodactylus porosus is a ground beetle in the family Carabidae, part of the tribe Anisodactylini. The genus Anisodactylus includes species known for granivory—feeding on weed seeds—though specific dietary habits of A. porosus have not been separately documented. It occurs in North America, with records from Canada and the United States. Like other members of its genus, it likely inhabits open, disturbed habitats including agricultural fields and gardens.
Argiope argentata
Silver Argiope, Silver Garden Spider, Silver Garden Orbweaver
Argiope argentata is a large, striking orb-weaving spider found from the southern United States through Central and South America to Chile and Argentina. Females are notable for their silvery cephalothorax and distinctive X-shaped stabilimentum in their webs, formed by four zigzag silk bands. The species exhibits extreme sexual dimorphism, with females reaching 12–16 mm body length while males are only 4–5 mm. Unlike many temperate Argiope species that mature in late summer, A. argentata adults may be found year-round in warmer regions, with males maturing as early as February. The spider incorporates UV-reflecting silks into both its body coloration and web decorations, which may function to attract pollinating prey by mimicking floral signals.
Argiope trifasciata
banded garden spider, banded orb weaving spider, banded argiope, whitebacked garden spider
A large orb-weaving spider with a nearly cosmopolitan distribution, native to the Americas but now found across six continents. Females construct distinctive spiral orb webs up to 60 cm in diameter, often decorated with zigzag stabilimentum patterns. The species exhibits notable thermoregulatory behavior through strategic web orientation and body positioning. Recent phylogeographic research suggests A. trifasciata may represent a complex of cryptic species rather than a single widespread species.
Aspisoma ignitum
Dixon's striped firefly
Aspisoma ignitum is a firefly species (family Lampyridae) distributed across the Caribbean, Central America, North America, and South America. It represents one of the more broadly distributed Aspisoma species in the Neotropics. The species exhibits a distinctive color pattern compared to many North American fireflies, with yellow elytra bearing black markings rather than the more common black-with-yellow pattern. It has been recorded as active during daylight hours, differing from the typical crepuscular or nocturnal activity of most fireflies.
Bradycellus harpalinus
European Harp Ground Beetle
Bradycellus harpalinus is a small ground beetle in the family Carabidae with a trans-Atlantic distribution spanning Europe and North America. The species has been introduced to North America from its native European range. It inhabits open, disturbed habitats and is frequently recorded in agricultural settings.
Didineis
Didineis is a genus of solitary predatory wasps in the family Crabronidae, subfamily Bembicinae, with approximately 24 described species worldwide. The genus is placed in the tribe Alyssontini. Species are small, ground-nesting wasps that prey on Auchenorrhynchan Hemipterans, primarily leafhoppers (Cicadellidae) and planthoppers (Fulgoridae). Two species occur in France—D. crassicornis and D. lunicornis—where they have been documented as recurrent inhabitants of agricultural ecosystems despite historical perceptions of rarity.
Eidmannella pallida
Pallid cave spider
Eidmannella pallida is a scaffold-web spider in the family Nesticidae with native distribution in North America and established invasive populations across multiple global regions. The species has been introduced to Pacific Islands, the Galápagos Islands, Macaronesia, Spain, Japan, and Italy, where it demonstrates high invasiveness potential. It readily establishes permanent populations in anthropogenic habitats including vineyards, annual crop fields, and olive groves, and shows particular tendency to exploit vulnerable subterranean ecosystems such as caves.
Emertonella
Emertonella is a genus of cobweb spiders in the family Theridiidae, subfamily Hadrotarsinae, first described by E. B. Bryant in 1945. The genus was re-delimited in 2024 based on male palpal morphology, transferring approximately 30 species from the genus Euryopis. It now contains species distributed across Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America, and New Guinea.

bigeyed bug
Geocoris black-calli-az is a species of bigeyed bug in the family Geocoridae. Members of this genus are predatory insects recognized for their large, conspicuous eyes. The species has been documented in association with agricultural systems where Geocoris species serve as natural enemies of crop pests.

ellipsis
Harpalus ellipsis is a species of ground beetle in the family Carabidae, subfamily Harpalinae. First described by John Lawrence LeConte in 1848, this beetle belongs to one of the largest genera of ground beetles in North America. The genus Harpalus contains numerous species that are primarily granivorous as adults, feeding on weed seeds, while larvae are predatory on soil-dwelling insects. Members of this genus are commonly found in agricultural and disturbed habitats across temperate regions.
Leiophron
Leiophron is a genus of endoparasitoid wasps in the family Braconidae, subfamily Euphorinae. Species are known to parasitize plant bugs (Miridae), particularly nymphal and adult stages of Lygus species and related mirids. The genus has been taxonomically reviewed for Nearctic species, with multiple new species described and synonymies established. Leiophron species show distinct host associations and geographic distribution patterns, with documented occurrence in the Nearctic, Palaearctic, and Old World tropics.
Lepthyphantes
dwarf spiders
Lepthyphantes is a genus of dwarf spiders in the family Linyphiidae, containing 144 species and one subspecies as of October 2025. Species in this genus are found across Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America. The genus is notable for its members' adaptations to ephemeral and agricultural habitats, with documented life history strategies emphasizing high reproductive rates and dispersal capabilities.
Liturgusa maya
Mayan Lichen Mantis
Liturgusa maya is a Neotropical bark mantis species first described in 1894. It inhabits tree trunks and branches in tropical forests, exhibiting exceptional speed and flattened body morphology adapted for crypsis among bark, moss, and lichen. The species has demonstrated notable geographic expansion through human-mediated introduction, with established non-native populations in Florida (USA) and the Galápagos Islands. In its native range, it has been documented as a frequent inhabitant of cacao agroecosystems in Peru. The species is parthenogenetic in at least some introduced populations.
Mermessus trilobatus
Trilobate Dwarf Weaver
Mermessus trilobatus is a dwarf spider in the family Linyphiidae, native to North America and introduced to Europe and the Azores since the late 1970s. It has become the most invasive spider in Europe, expanding across multiple countries within fifty years. Unlike most invasive spiders in Europe, it occurs primarily in agricultural and semi-natural open habitats rather than buildings. First described by James Henry Emerton in 1882.
Notiophilus nitens
bright big-eyed beetle
Notiophilus nitens is a ground beetle in the family Carabidae, commonly known as the bright big-eyed beetle. It occurs in western North America, with documented populations in British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. Adults exhibit wing dimorphism, with some individuals having reduced wings (brachypterous) and others fully developed wings (macropterous). The species inhabits open, disturbed habitats including grasslands and agricultural areas.
Oedothorax
dwarf spiders
Oedothorax is a genus of dwarf spiders in the family Linyphiidae, subfamily Erigoninae, first described in 1883. The genus comprises approximately 39 species distributed across Europe, Asia, North America, and Africa. These spiders are characterized by their small size, typically measuring only about 2 mm in total body length. Males of certain species, such as O. trilobatus, exhibit distinctive cephalothoracic modifications including tumor-like swellings or horn-like extensions. The genus has gained scientific attention due to O. gibbosus hosting up to five different bacterial endosymbionts simultaneously, representing a unique system for studying host-endosymbiont interactions.
Philodromus praelustris
Resplendent Running Crab Spider
Philodromus praelustris is a running crab spider in the family Philodromidae, found in the United States and Canada. It has an annual life cycle and is known to occur in orchard habitats in Ontario. Females are capable of producing multiple egg sacs, with laboratory observations recording up to 12 sacs containing over 200 eggs total, though fecundity in natural settings appears lower. The species disperses primarily by bridging—casting air-borne web loops that catch on distant objects—rather than by ballooning.
Poecilus diplophryus
Poecilus diplophryus is a species of ground beetle in the family Carabidae, first described by Chaudoir in 1876. It belongs to a genus of small to medium-sized carabid beetles commonly found in agricultural and open habitats. The species has been documented in North and Middle America, with records from the United States. Like other Poecilus species, it is likely a ground-dwelling predator sensitive to soil disturbance regimes.
Steatoda erigoniformis
Steatoda erigoniformis is a cobweb spider in the family Theridiidae. Originally described from the East Mediterranean region, it has a broad native distribution spanning North Africa, the Middle East, Caucasus, and East Asia. The species has been introduced to multiple regions including the United States, Caribbean, Venezuela, Cape Verde, and South Africa, where it has established populations in agricultural and natural habitats. It constructs three-dimensional cobwebs in dark, sheltered locations and has been recorded from sea level to nearly 3,000 meters elevation.
Stenolophus ochropezus
Stenolophus ochropezus is a small ground beetle in the family Carabidae, first described by Thomas Say in 1823. It is one of numerous species in the genus Stenolophus, a group commonly known as seedcorn beetles due to their association with agricultural fields and seed predation. The species is documented across North America with substantial observational records.
Tetracha carolina
Carolina Metallic Tiger Beetle, Carolina Tiger Beetle
Tetracha carolina is a widely distributed tiger beetle species occurring across the southern United States, West Indies, Mexico, Central America, and western South America to Chile. Adults are strictly nocturnal, hiding during the day under cover objects such as irrigation pipes or in self-constructed burrows. The species has been observed to thrive in agricultural habitats, particularly in the Mississippi Alluvial Plain where it was once considered rare. It is one of four Tetracha species in the United States, distinguished from the similar T. floridana by purple or coppery reflections on the anteriolateral elytra and convergent anterior lobes of the apical lunules.
Thanatus vulgaris
Cricket Thief Spider
Thanatus vulgaris is a running crab spider in the family Philodromidae with a remarkably wide global distribution spanning native Palearctic ranges and introduced populations across multiple continents. The species occupies diverse terrestrial habitats from natural grasslands and shrublands to agricultural systems. It is known for ground-dwelling behavior and has been observed engaging in ballooning dispersal. Two subspecies are recognized: T. v. vulgaris and T. v. creticus.
