Hybrizon
Hybrizon is a genus of small parasitoid wasps in the family Ichneumonidae, subfamily Hybrizontinae. Members are specialized ant parasitoids that attack ant larvae transported by worker ants. The genus was historically classified variably, previously placed in Braconidae or treated as a separate family, and the subfamily was formerly known as Paxylommatinae. Oviposition behavior involves females grasping ant larvae with their fore legs while exserting the ovipositor.
Hybrizon flavocinctus
Hybrizon flavocinctus is a species of parasitoid wasp in the family Ichneumonidae, subfamily Hybrizontinae. Members of this subfamily are specialized ant parasitoids, representing the third most diverse group of ant parasitoid wasps after Eucharitidae and Neoneurini. The species was described by Ashmead in 1894. As with other Hybrizontinae, it is presumed to parasitize ants, though specific host records and behavioral observations for H. flavocinctus remain undocumented in the available literature.
Metopininae
Metopininae is the largest subfamily of scuttle flies (Phoridae), primarily due to the hyperdiverse genus Megaselia. Members exhibit broad ecological diversity, with larvae ranging from saprophagous decomposers to parasitoids of insects and other arthropods. The subfamily includes economically significant pests and is among the most frequently encountered phorid groups worldwide.

Ant Flies and Allies
A subfamily of hoverflies (Syrphidae) comprising approximately 400 species, distinguished by their obligate myrmecophilous lifestyle. Larvae develop within ant nests as predators or scavengers of ant brood, exhibiting reduced body segmentation compared to other syrphid larvae. Adults of many species remain near host ant colonies rather than visiting flowers; some species lack functional mouthparts entirely. Several genera lack the spurious vein characteristic of other Syrphidae.
Neoneurini
Neoneurini is a tribe of braconid wasps in the subfamily Euphorinae, historically treated as a separate subfamily but now placed within Euphorinae based on molecular data. The tribe contains three European genera—Elasmosoma, Kollasmosoma, and Neoneurus—comprising koinobiont endoparasitoids of adult ants. These wasps possess highly specialized morphological adaptations for attacking ants, including a strongly curved, hook-shaped ovipositor directed forward, and modified legs with vestigial tarsal claws and enlarged pulvilli for grasping ant metasomas. The tribe has a fossil record extending to Baltic amber.
Neoneurus
Neoneurus is a genus of minute parasitoid wasps in the family Braconidae, tribe Neoneurini. These wasps are specialized ant parasitoids, with females attacking adult ant workers in flight to deposit their eggs. The genus includes species such as Neoneurus vesculus, which has been filmed ovipositing into Formica cunicularia workers. Neoneurus species are among the few parasitoids capable of overcoming ant defenses, representing a highly specialized ecological adaptation.

Orasema is a genus of chalcid wasps in the family Eucharitidae containing at least 50 described species. These wasps are specialized parasitoids of myrmicine ants (Formicidae: Myrmicinae), with documented hosts including Pheidole, Wasmannia, and Solenopsis. The genus is widespread in the New World, ranging from northern Argentina to southern Canada. Several species groups have been established based on morphology and molecular phylogeny, with the stramineipes group being the most diverse. Some species have been associated with minor agricultural damage when ovipositing into crop plant leaves.
Orasema castilloae
Orasema castilloae is a species of chalcid wasp in the family Eucharitidae, described in 2020. It belongs to the Orasema tolteca species group, one of several species groups within the widespread New World genus Orasema. Members of this genus are specialized parasitoids of myrmicine ants (Formicidae: Myrmicinae). The species is known from the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico.
Orasema costaricensis
Orasema costaricensis is a species of parasitic wasp in the family Eucharitidae, first described by Wheeler & Wheeler in 1937. Like other members of the genus Orasema, it is likely a parasitoid of ant larvae, though specific host associations for this species remain poorly documented. The species name indicates its Costa Rican origin. Records from the Galápagos Islands suggest some dispersal capacity or potential human-mediated introduction.
Phyllobaenus obscurus

Phyllobaenus obscurus is a checkered beetle (family Cleridae) notable as the first documented case of a beetle acting as a parasitoid of ants. Larvae develop inside intact cocoons of two species in the Ectatomma ruidum species complex, feeding on ant prepupae or pupae and eventually killing the host. This parasitoid lifestyle represents a significant departure from typical clerid ecology, which centers on predation of wood-boring beetles. The species has been documented in Pacific coastal plains of Oaxaca, Mexico, where prevalence of parasitism is extremely low (<0.6% of available cocoons).

Pseudogaurax
Pseudogaurax is a genus of small flies in the family Chloropidae (frit flies), established by Malloch in 1915. The genus contains approximately 70 described species distributed across all biogeographic regions, with particular diversity in the Neotropics. Larvae are specialized predators and parasitoids of arthropod eggs, with well-documented associations with spider egg sacs, dobsonfly egg masses, mantid oothecae, and—uniquely among Chloropidae—ants. The genus includes the first known ant-parasitizing species in its family, Pseudogaurax paratolmos, discovered in Panama in 2016.
Pseudometagea
Pseudometagea is a genus of parasitic wasps in the family Eucharitidae, characterized by endoparasitic first-instar larvae (planidia) that develop internally within host ant larvae. The genus is notable for having evolved endoparasitism independently within Eucharitidae, exhibiting koinobiosis where the parasitoid allows the host to continue development. The life history has been documented primarily for P. schwarzii, which parasitizes Lasius neoniger. Adults are short-lived and typically remain near host nests.
