Agaoninae

Agaoninae is a subfamily of pollinating fig wasps within the family Agaonidae. Members are obligate mutualists of Ficus species, developing their entire larval stage inside fig fruits. The subfamily exhibits remarkable morphological stasis, with fossil forms from the Eocene and Miocene nearly identical to modern representatives. Some lineages, such as the proposed Hexapus group, retain ancestral traits including females with two mandibular appendages and hexapodous males with functional mid-legs.
Ankothrips
Ankothrips is a genus of thrips in the family Melanthripidae. It is recognized as the most ancient extant thrips genus, with fossil evidence indicating an origin in the Early Cretaceous period approximately 94 million years ago. The genus exhibits remarkable morphological stability over this timespan, with two fossil species described from French amber: Ankothrips dupeae from the Late Cretaceous and Ankothrips deploegi from the earliest Eocene. This long-term morphological conservatism is rare among insects.
Antrodiaetus unicolor

Antrodiaetus unicolor is a mygalomorph spider in the family Antrodiaetidae, historically considered a single widespread species but now recognized as a species complex containing multiple cryptic species. These spiders construct silk-lined burrows with folding doors rather than the hinged trapdoors of related families. Research using genomic-scale data has revealed substantial hidden diversity within this morphologically conserved group, particularly in the southern Appalachian Mountains.
Anurida
Anurida is a genus of springtails (Collembola) in the family Neanuridae, established in 1865 by Laboulbène. The genus has cosmopolitan distribution with species occupying diverse habitats including intertidal marine zones, river floodplains, riparian areas, and forest ecosystems. Well-studied species include the intertidal specialist Anurida maritima, which exhibits complex tidal-entrained behaviors, and the terrestrial A. granaria, which has documented mycophagous associations. The genus shows notable morphological diversity in chaetotaxy and eye reduction, with some species groups exhibiting cryptic genetic divergence despite morphological similarity.

Pocock's lampshade-web spider
Hypochilus pococki is a relictual lampshade spider endemic to the southern Appalachian Mountains. It belongs to a paleoendemic genus distributed disjunctly across three montane regions in North America. The species exhibits extreme genetic divergence over small geographic distances, with five identified mitochondrial haplogroups, yet shows striking morphological stasis in male reproductive structures. As a microhabitat specialist, it has extremely low dispersal ability, leading to pronounced population genetic structuring.

Jacobson's beetles
Jacobsoniidae is a small family of minute beetles within the superfamily Staphylinoidea, comprising three extant genera (Derolathrus, Sarothrias, Saphophagus) and approximately 28 described species. Adults and larvae inhabit cryptic microhabitats including leaf litter, rotting wood, fungal fruiting bodies, bat guano, and caves. The family exhibits remarkable morphological stasis since the Cretaceous, with fossil records from Cretaceous amber of Myanmar and France, Eocene Baltic amber, and Holocene copal. Members are among the smallest beetles, measuring 0.7–2.1 mm, and are exceptionally rare in collections.
Ligia occidentalis

Ligia occidentalis is a supralittoral isopod inhabiting rocky shorelines along the eastern Pacific coast. The species occupies the high intertidal zone, hiding in crevices above the high tide line during daytime to avoid desiccation and emerging nocturnally to feed. It is distinguished from the sympatric Ligia pallasii by longer uropods, larger eyes set closer together, and a sleeker body form. The species harbors mycoplasma-like bacteria as hepatopancreas symbionts and shows remarkable morphological stasis across highly genetically divergent allopatric lineages.
