Cactus Dodger Cicadas
Cacama is a genus of cicadas in the family Cicadidae, commonly known as "cactus dodger cicadas." The subspecies exhibits distinct thermal adaptations including dense ventral pilosity and midday burrowing behavior to avoid extreme surface temperatures. Eastern populations show reddish suffusion in the green sutural areas, while western populations lack this trait.

The subspecies exhibits unique physiological and behavioral adaptations that allow it to function as an apex predator in these extreme habitats, including heat-reflective ventral plates and an apparent lack of cooling behaviors despite high ambient temperatures.
