Acroneuria
common stoneflies
Acroneuria is a genus of large-bodied stoneflies in the family Perlidae, containing more than 30 described species distributed across North America and Asia. Nymphs are predatory and inhabit streams and rivers, where they serve as important bioindicators of water quality. Adults are known for distinctive emergence behaviors, including arboreal emergence in some species. Several species in the genus are experiencing range contractions and population declines due to habitat degradation and climate change.
Aplomerus
A small genus of parasitoid wasps in the subfamily Xoridinae (Ichneumonidae). The genus exhibits a disjunct distribution across North America, Japan, and southeast Asia. Eight species are currently recognized, including two described from the Oriental region (Thailand and Vietnam) and one from Japan. Aplomerus is considered a basal lineage within Xoridinae.
Bathynomus
Giant Isopods, Supergiant Isopods, Sea Bugs (Vietnamese: bọ biển)
Bathynomus is a genus of supergiant deep-sea isopods in the family Cirolanidae, containing nearly 20 described species. These crustaceans are among the largest isopods in the world, with some species exceeding 30 cm in length and 1 kg in weight. They inhabit cold, deep waters of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, typically at depths of 400–2,300 m. Several species have become commercially fished as seafood, particularly in Vietnam, where they are known as "bọ biển" or "sea bugs."
Deinopteroloma
Deinopteroloma is a genus of rove beetles (Staphylinidae: Omaliinae: Anthophagini) established by Jansson in 1946. The genus was transferred from Silphidae to Staphylinidae based on morphological evidence and is now classified within the Anthobium group of genera. Species occur in the Pacific Northwest of North America, the Nepal Himalayas, northeastern Burma, China (Sichuan, Yunnan), and northern Vietnam. The genus includes at least nine described species, with several new species described from China and Vietnam in 2016.
Lycogaster
Lycogaster is a genus of parasitoid wasps in the family Trigonalidae, first described by Shuckard in 1841. Members of this genus are hyperparasitoids, meaning they parasitize other parasitoids. The genus was first recorded from Vietnam in 2025 based on specimens of L. flavonigrata, expanding its known distribution beyond China.
Micreremidae
Micreremidae is a family of oribatid mites comprising at least 4 genera and approximately 14 described species. The family is placed in the superfamily Licneremaeoidea. Known genera include Micreremus, Fenichelia, Mexiceremus, and Phylloribatula. Records indicate arboreal associations, with some species collected from tree branches in tropical forests.
Rhaconotus
Rhaconotus is a genus of parasitoid wasps in the family Braconidae, subfamily Doryctinae. Taxonomic revisions have recognized species groups within the genus, notably the signipennis-group and testaceiceps-group in the Oriental region. Recent work in Vietnam described eight new species within these groups, bringing the total treated to fourteen species for that region. The genus belongs to the ichneumonoid wasps, a diverse lineage of parasitoids.
Wroughtonia
Wroughtonia is a genus of braconid wasps in the family Braconidae, subfamily Helconinae. The genus contains over 40 described species, with recent taxonomic work describing new species from Vietnam. As members of Braconidae, these wasps are presumed to be parasitoids, though specific host associations remain poorly documented for most species.
