Agallissini
Agallissini is a tribe of longhorn beetles in the subfamily Cerambycinae, established by LeConte in 1873. The tribe contains three genera—Agallissus, Osmopleura, and Zagymnus—with five described species. North American species have been documented with specific host plant associations, particularly with palms.
Agoo
Agoo is a genus of palm-feeding planthoppers in the family Derbidae, described by Bahder & Bartlett in 2019. The genus is known from Mexico, with two described species: A. kizini from the Yucatán Peninsula and A. palmalopezi from Tabasco. Specimens have been found in association with palms, representing the first record of this genus in Mexico. Molecular sequence data for 18S rRNA and COX1 genes have been published for A. kizini.
Aleurotrachelus
Aleurotrachelus is a genus of whiteflies (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) established by Quaintance & Baker in 1914. Several species are economically significant agricultural pests. Aleurotrachelus socialis is a major pest of cassava in South America, causing yield losses up to 79% through direct feeding and sooty mold promotion. Aleurotrachelus trachoides, known as the solanum or pepper whitefly, attacks Solanaceae crops including tomato, eggplant, chili, and sweet potato across tropical and subtropical regions. Aleurotrachelus atratus infests palms, particularly coconut, and has spread to islands in the southwestern Indian Ocean. Species in this genus are characterized by distinct puparial morphology used in taxonomic identification.
Ancognatha
Ancognatha is a genus of rhinoceros beetles (Scarabaeidae: Dynastinae: Cyclocephalini) comprising 22 described species. It represents the fourth most species-rich genus of Neotropical cyclocephaline scarabs. Species in this genus are distinguished from related taxa by their predominance in montane habitats at high elevations, in contrast to the lowland preferences of most other cyclocephalines.
Nogodinidae
Nogodinid Planthoppers
Nogodinidae is a family of planthoppers within the superfamily Fulgoroidea. Members are distinguished by membranous wings with reticulate venation, a frons longer than wide, and antennae arising well below the eye with a clubbed base and unsegmented flagellum. The family contains four extant subfamilies (Bladininae, Gastriniinae, Colpopterinae, Nogodininae) and one fossil subfamily (†Ambitaktoinae). Taxonomic placement has been historically unstable, with some authors treating Nogodinidae as a subfamily of Issidae. Most species are forest-dwelling and less than 2 cm in length.
Phoenicococcus
red date scale
Phoenicococcus is a genus of scale insects in the family Phoenicococcidae. The genus contains P. marlatti, commonly known as the red date scale, which is a significant pest of cultivated date palms (Phoenix dactylifera). Species in this genus are phloem-feeding insects that infest palm hosts. The genus is distinguished by its specialized association with palms and its morphological features typical of the family Phoenicococcidae.
Shellenius
Shellenius is a small genus of planthoppers in the family Derbidae, subfamily Otiocerinae, tribe Otiocerini. The genus was established by Ball in 1928 and contains species distributed in the eastern United States and Mesoamerica. At least one species has been documented in association with palms in Costa Rica. A recent taxonomic revision transferred Otiocerus interruptus Fowler to this genus as Shellenius interruptus.
