Callophrys irus arsace
Callophrys irus arsace is a historically reported subspecies of the frosted elfin butterfly, originally described from coastal regions of the southeastern United States (Carolinas and Virginia). Genetic analysis of preserved specimens found no evidence that this subspecies is genetically distinct from the nominate subspecies C. i. irus. Field surveys conducted in 2019 and 2021 failed to locate any extant populations within its historical range. The subspecies has not been observed in over two decades and may be extirpated.
Diogmites bilobatus
Diogmites bilobatus is a robber fly species (Diptera: Asilidae) described by Barnes in 2010 from museum specimens. It closely resembles the widespread D. angustipennis and occurs in the south-central and southwestern United States and northern Mexico. As a member of the genus Diogmites, it belongs to a group commonly known as 'hanging thieves' for their distinctive prey-handling behavior.
Ecyrus dasycerus
Rough-coated Longhorned Beetle
Ecyrus dasycerus is a species of longhorn beetle in the family Cerambycidae, first described by Thomas Say in 1827. It is known from North America, with records from the United States and Mexico. The species exhibits two recognized subspecies: the nominate E. d. dasycerus and E. d. floridanus described by Linsley in 1935. Like other members of the subfamily Lamiinae, it is a wood-associated beetle whose larvae develop in dead or dying woody plants.

Ophion slossonae is a species of ichneumon wasp in the subfamily Ophioninae, described by Davis in 1893. It belongs to a genus notorious for taxonomic difficulty, with museum collections containing numerous unidentified specimens. The species was one of only eleven Ophion species known from North America for over a century until modern molecular and morphometric techniques enabled the description of additional species. Like other Ophioninae, it is likely nocturnal and attracted to artificial lights.
Oxytorinae
Oxytorinae is a subfamily of ichneumonid wasps within the family Ichneumonidae. The genus Oxytorus, the primary representative of this subfamily in the New World, comprises 11 described species with distribution ranging from North America through Central America to South America. The subfamily was first recorded in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in 2024 through DNA barcoding of historical specimens, representing a significant range extension for the group. Species identification relies on morphological features of the thorax, wings, and antennae, with taxonomic reviews providing illustrated keys for New World species.
Pentelicus
Pentelicus is a genus of parasitic wasps in the family Encyrtidae, subfamily Encyrtinae. The genus was established by Howard in 1895. Species in this genus are parasitoids, though specific host associations remain poorly documented in available literature. The genus is represented in museum collections including the UCR Encyrtidae collection, which holds specimens of Pentelicus aldrichi and additional undetermined Pentelicus species.

Woodland Ground Beetles
Pterostichini is a tribe of ground beetles in the subfamily Harpalinae, commonly known as woodland ground beetles. The tribe contains approximately 180 genera and over 3,800 described species, though estimates vary. Members are primarily ground-dwelling beetles with diverse ecological roles as predators. Research on certain genera, particularly Pterostichus, has revealed complex life history patterns including iteroparity, flexible breeding periods, and responses to environmental conditions such as drought.
