Ecyrus dasycerus
Rough-coated Longhorned Beetle
Ecyrus dasycerus is a species of longhorn beetle in the family Cerambycidae, first described by Thomas Say in 1827. It is known from North America, with records from the United States and Mexico. The species exhibits two recognized subspecies: the nominate E. d. dasycerus and E. d. floridanus described by Linsley in 1935. Like other members of the subfamily Lamiinae, it is a wood-associated beetle whose larvae develop in dead or dying woody plants.

Dukes' skipper
Euphyes dukesi, known as Dukes' skipper, is a small wetland-associated skipper butterfly endemic to eastern North America. The species exhibits a fragmented distribution across three geographically isolated populations: the Atlantic coastal plain, the lower Mississippi Valley, and the Great Lakes region. It is strictly associated with shaded wetland habitats where sedges serve as larval host plants. The species was first described in 1923 from Alabama and named for collector W. C. Dukes. Two subspecies are recognized: the nominate form and the Florida-endemic E. d. calhouni, which occupies swamp habitats with distinct morphological differences.

Limenitis archippus obsoleta, commonly known as the Southwest Viceroy, is a subspecies of viceroy butterfly native to western North America. Unlike the nominate eastern subspecies, this form exhibits darker, more brownish-purple coloration and is thought to mimic the Queen butterfly (Danaus gilippus) rather than the Monarch. The subspecies demonstrates the geographic variation in mimicry systems, where different models drive selection in different regions.
