Aleuroparadoxus
whiteflies
Aleuroparadoxus is a genus of whiteflies (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) established by Quaintance & Baker in 1914. The genus contains at least one documented species, A. arctostaphyli Russell, 1947, which was first recorded in Mexico in 2017. Species in this genus are associated with host plants in the genus Arctostaphylos (Ericaceae).
Aseptis fumeola
Aseptis fumeola is a noctuid moth described by George Hampson in 1908. It occurs in the southwestern United States, specifically in foothills and mountain habitats of Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah. The species is associated with dry chaparral, parkland, and conifer forest environments. Adults are active in early summer, and larvae have been documented feeding on Arctostaphylos species.
Callophrys affinis apama
Western Green Hairstreak
Callophrys affinis apama is a subspecies of the western green hairstreak butterfly, a small lycaenid found in western North America. It is one of several subspecies within the C. affinis complex, which shows geographic variation across its range. The species is associated with open habitats where its larval host plants grow. Adults are active in spring and early summer, with a rapid, low flight pattern typical of hairstreak butterflies.
Epinotia arctostaphylana
Epinotia arctostaphylana is a species of tortricid moth in the family Tortricidae, first described by Kearfott in 1904. The species epithet references its association with bearberry (Arctostaphylos), indicating a likely host plant relationship. As a member of the Olethreutinae subfamily, it belongs to a diverse group of small moths commonly known as leafroller moths or tortrix moths. The species is documented in North American faunal records, though detailed biological studies remain limited.
Etainia thoraceleuca
Etainia thoraceleuca is a North American moth in the family Nepticulidae, described in 2024 as the second native American species in the genus. It is known from light-collected adults across California, Arizona, and Ontario, Canada. The species is a specialist feeder on Ericaceae, with larvae making short leafmines on Arbutus and Arctostaphylos species before continuing development in stems and branches. It is sister to the European species E. albibimaculella.
Marmara on-arctostaphylos
A leaf-mining moth in the family Gracillariidae, genus Marmara. The species epithet references its host plant association with Arctostaphylos (manzanita). Members of this genus are minute moths with larvae that create serpentine or blotch mines in leaves.
Neophyllura arctostaphyli
Neophyllura arctostaphyli is a psyllid species in the family Liviidae, originally described by Schwarz in 1904 as Euphyllura arctostaphyli. The species is associated with bearberry (Arctostaphylos), as indicated by its specific epithet. It belongs to a genus of jumping plant lice that feed on woody plants.
Phyllonorycter manzanita
Phyllonorycter manzanita is a leaf-mining moth in the family Gracillariidae. The species is endemic to California and was described by Braun in 1925. Larvae create characteristic mines in the leaves of manzanita species (Arctostaphylos), with documented hosts including Arctostaphylos glauca and Arctostaphylos manzanita.
