Acronicta increta
raspberry bud dagger moth, raspberry bud moth, peach sword stripe night moth
Acronicta increta is a small noctuid moth with a wingspan of 28–36 mm, found throughout southern Canada and the United States. The species is taxonomically disputed, with some authors considering it a synonym of Acronicta inclara. Adults are active from May to September depending on location. Larval host associations remain uncertain, with probable feeding on Quercus species suggested but not confirmed.
Atrytonopsis loammi
Loammi skipper, southern dusted skipper
Atrytonopsis loammi, commonly known as the Loammi skipper or southern dusted skipper, is a small hesperiid butterfly found in coastal regions of the southeastern United States. The species has been subject to taxonomic debate, with some authors treating it as a subspecies of Atrytonopsis hianna, and the North Carolina barrier island population described separately as Atrytonopsis quinteri. Adults are active in two distinct flight periods during spring and mid-summer to late summer. The larvae feed specifically on Schizachyrium littorale, a coastal grass species.
Bombus natvigi
High Arctic Bumble Bee
Bombus natvigi is a cuckoo bumble bee endemic to the Nearctic Arctic, recognized as a distinct species from Bombus hyperboreus in 2015 based on genetic analysis. It is a brood parasite that invades colonies of Bombus polaris, using pheromones to manipulate host workers into rearing its offspring. The species is currently listed as Data Deficient by the IUCN Red List, reflecting limited knowledge of its population status and ecology. Its taxonomic status remains debated, with some subsequent studies treating it as a subspecies of B. hyperboreus.
Chrysoclista
Chrysoclista is a genus of small moths within the family Elachistidae, though its familial placement has been historically disputed. The genus was described by Henry Tibbats Stainton in 1854 and contains approximately twelve described species distributed across the Holarctic region. Species within this genus exhibit metallic coloration, reflected in the name derived from Greek roots meaning 'golden' and 'hair'. The taxonomy of Chrysoclista has been contentious, with various authors assigning it to Agonoxenidae, Cosmopterigidae, Elachistidae, or Momphidae.
Erechthias
fungus moths
Erechthias is a genus of small moths in the family Tineidae, comprising the type genus of subfamily Erechthiinae. The genus encompasses more than 150 species with disputed circumscription, including several previously recognized genera now treated as synonyms. Species occur across tropical and subtropical regions worldwide, with some showing pan-global distributions while others are highly endemic.
Sphindociinae
Sphindociinae is a small subfamily of beetles established by Lawrence in 1974. The group has been historically classified within different families, with sources placing it in either Tetratomidae or Ciidae. The subfamily contains few described species and remains poorly known, with only two observations recorded on iNaturalist. Members are minute beetles associated with fungal habitats.
Strongylophthalmyiidae
Hardwood Flies
Strongylophthalmyiidae is a small family of slender, long-legged flies containing approximately 80 species across two genera: the monotypic Southeast Asian genus Nartshukia and the cosmopolitan Strongylophthalmyia. The family's phylogenetic relationships remain unresolved, having been variously classified with Psilidae or Tanypezidae. The majority of species occur in the Oriental and Australasian regions, with limited representation in the Nearctic and Palearctic.
