Taxonomic history

Heinrich established Talponia in 1926 to accommodate previously misplaced in other grapholitine . The type species is Talponia plummeriana, originally described as Cydia plummeriana by Busck in 1906.

Both are infrequently collected. T. plummeriana is known from fewer than 50 museum specimens despite its North American range.
