Paramormiini

Paramormiini can be distinguished from other Psychodinae tribes by wing venation characteristics, particularly the arrangement and branching of veins in the distal portion of the wing. Genitalic morphology, especially in males, provides definitive tribal-level characters. Members generally exhibit the dense wing scaling and hairy body typical of Psychodidae, but specific tribal identification requires microscopic examination of these structural features.

Members of Paramormiini are found in damp habitats including moist soil, leaf litter, and decaying organic matter. Some species occur in cave systems. Larval stages require moist to wet substrates; adults are often found resting on vegetation or other surfaces in humid microhabitats.

Paramormiini has been recorded from multiple continents including North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. The tribe shows a broad geographic distribution consistent with the cosmopolitan nature of Psychodidae.

Larvae of Paramormiini contribute to decomposition processes in moist terrestrial and aquatic microhabitats. As with other Psychodidae, they likely function as nutrient cyclers in detritus-based food webs. Adults may serve as prey for small arthropod predators.
