Microcrambus is a of grass-veneer in the Crambidae, Crambinae. The genus was established by Polish Stanisław Błeszyński in 1963 and contains approximately 50 described distributed primarily in the Americas. Species in this genus are small moths characterized by narrow and relatively simple wing patterns. Many species were originally described in other genera and later transferred to Microcrambus based on genitalic and external morphological characters.

Taxonomic History

The was erected by Błeszyński in 1963 to accommodate small crambine previously assigned to other genera, particularly Crambus and related . The is Microcrambus cyllarus Błeszyński, 1963. The genus name refers to the small size of these moths relative to typical Crambus species.

Species Diversity

The includes approximately 50 described , with many described by Błeszyński himself in 1963 and 1967. Additional species were described by Klots in 1968. Several species were transferred into Microcrambus from other genera, including some originally described by Zeller, Dyar, Hampson, Schaus, and others in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
