The has been recorded from montane localities in Mexico (Xalapa, Orizaba), Rica, and Panama. Very few observations exist, with only three records documented on iNaturalist.

Taxonomic note

The Oligostigmoides is classified within the Acentropinae of Crambidae. Many Acentropinae are associated with aquatic or semi-aquatic , though this has not been confirmed for O. cryptalis specifically.

This is known from very few specimens and observations. The three iNaturalist records and original description by Druce constitute the primary documented information available.
