Oxycnemis is a of in the , established by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1882. The genus currently contains eight recognized distributed in North America. A taxonomic revision by Troubridge (2008) realigned the genus within the tribe Psaphidini of the Amphipyrinae. Formerly placed species have been reassigned to other genera, such as Sympistis.

Taxonomic History

Troubridge (2008) conducted a major generic realignment of the Oncocnemidini Hodges (1983), placing Oxycnemis in Psaphidini (Amphipyrinae). The Oxycnemis erratica Barnes & McDunnough, 1913 was synonymized with O. grandimacula Barnes & McDunnough, 1910.
