Charops is a of ichneumonid wasps in the Campopleginae, established by Holmgren in 1859. in this genus are larval of lepidopteran , with documented associations including fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) in agricultural systems. The genus has a broad geographic distribution spanning Asia, South America, and Europe. Recent taxonomic work has expanded the known , particularly with descriptions of seven new species from Brazil and one from China.

Distribution

Brazil; China; Southern Rajasthan, India; Karnataka, India; Denmark; Norway; Sweden. Distribution has been expanded through recent taxonomic revisions, with new described from Brazil and updated distribution records for C. brachypterus and C. striatus in China.

Host Associations

Ecological Role

Larval of lepidopteran insect pests. Acts as a agent for fall armyworm in maize production systems. Part of a four- where hyperparasitism by Brachymeria spp may disrupt potential and affect pest control efficacy.

Human Relevance

agent for fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda), an pest threatening global food security and maize production. Hyperparasitism of Charops by Brachymeria spp may reduce the effectiveness of biological control programs.
