Bactericera athenae is a of in the Triozidae, first described by Crawford in 1914. Like other members of the Bactericera, it is a small phloem-feeding insect commonly known as a "jumping plant louse." The genus Bactericera contains approximately 24 described species in North America north of Mexico, many of which are poorly known and associated with specific plants.
