Taxonomic history

Coranarta was erected by Hacker in 1998 to accommodate previously placed in other noctuid . The type species is Coranarta cordigera (Thunberg, 1792), originally described under Noctua.

The comprises five : C. carbonaria (Siberia, Russian Far East), C. cordigera (northern Europe and Asia), C. luteola (North America), C. macrostigma (Spain), and C. restricta (Spain).
