Taxonomic History
Originally described as Dianthoecia phoca by Möschler in 1864, later transferred to Lasionycta. The genus Lasionycta was revised for North America by Lafontaine and Schmidt in ZooKeys 30 (December 2009), which included , descriptions, and illustrations of 43 , 17 of which were newly described.
