Biological control potential

Curinus coeruleus has been evaluated as a of Florida red scale (Chrysomphalus aonidum), an pest of citrus. beetles consumed 64-68% of armored scales within 24 hours and 83-89% within 72 hours; consumption reached 100% when armor was artificially removed. Larvae showed lower consumption rates: 25% at 24 hours and 41% at 72 hours on armored scales, versus 92-100% on unarmored scales. The has also been introduced as a predator of Heteropsylla cubana, though detailed information on this application is limited.
