The genus originally included seven described , with Baphala pallida (Comstock, 1880) being among the earliest described. Species originally placed in Baphala are now classified under Vitula.

Baphala is recognized as a synonym of Vitula in major taxonomic databases including GBIF and Catalogue of Life. The original description by Heinrich (1956) distinguished it based on morphological characters, but subsequent revisionary work has not supported its validity as a separate .

Species Composition

The originally contained seven : B. homoeosomella (Zeller, 1881), B. eremiella (Dyar, 1910), B. glabrella (Dyar, 1919), B. goyensis, B. haywardi, B. pallida (Comstock, 1880), and B. phaeolella (Neunzig, 1997). These are now transferred to Vitula.
