Taxonomic history

Protoproutia was established by Canadian entomologist James Halliday McDunnough in 1939 with Protoproutia rusticaria as the type . Protoproutia laredoata was originally described in the Lobocleta by Cassino in 1931 before being transferred to Protoproutia.
