Small-subfamily
Guides
Nioniinae
Nioniinae is a subfamily of leafhoppers (family Cicadellidae) established by Oman in 1943. It represents a relatively small and poorly studied group within the Membracoidea superfamily. Members are classified within the Clypeata clade of Cicadomorpha. The subfamily has been documented from limited observations, with iNaturalist recording only 19 observations as of source date.
Oncerinae
Oncerinae is a small subfamily of scarab beetles containing only two genera, each with a single species: Nefoncerus convergens in the Neotropics and Oncerus floralis in North America. The group has been historically unstable in classification, sometimes treated as a tribe (Oncerini) within Melolonthinae. Its limited diversity and disjunct geographic distribution make it a minor but taxonomically distinct lineage within Scarabaeidae.
Pityobiinae
Pityobiinae is a subfamily of click beetles (family Elateridae) established by Hyslop in 1917. The subfamily contains two valid genera: Pityobius (Leconte, 1854) and Tibionema (Solier, 1851), with at least two described species. It is one of ten subfamilies treated in recent nomenclatural catalogues of Elateridae genus-group names. The classification follows Costa et al. (2010) with subsequent modifications by Kundrata et al. (2016).
Synetinae
Synetinae is a small subfamily of leaf beetles (Chrysomelidae) containing two genera, Syneta and Thricolema, with approximately 12 described species. The group is restricted to the Holarctic region, with most species occurring in North America and a smaller number in Europe and Asia. The taxonomic status of Synetinae has been disputed: historically treated as a separate subfamily, it was proposed as tribe Synetini within Eumolpinae based on larval similarities, though this placement remains contested due to conflicting morphological evidence.
