  • Atheloca subrufella

    Palm Bud Moth, Coconut Moth

Atheloca subrufella is a small snout moth (Pyralidae: Phycitinae) known as a significant pest of coconut and other palms. Adults have a wingspan of 14–18 mm and brownish coloration. The species occurs in the southeastern United States, Mexico, Caribbean islands, and Brazil. Larvae are specialized feeders on developing palm fruits, causing substantial agricultural damage through gallery formation in the mesocarp and premature fruit shedding.

  • Ormenaria

Ormenaria is a genus of flatid planthoppers in the family Flatidae, established by Metcalf and Bruner in 1948. The genus contains at least two described species native to North America, including the economically notable palm flatid planthopper (Ormenaria rufifascia). Species in this genus are characterized by their flattened, often leaf-like body form typical of flatid planthoppers. The genus is placed in the tribe Siphantini within the subfamily Flatinae.

  • Thrinax

Thrinax is a genus of palms in the family Arecaceae, native to the Caribbean region. The genus comprises three recognized species and is classified in tribe Cryosophileae, subfamily Coryphoideae. Thrinax is closely related to the genera Coccothrinax, Hemithrinax, Leucothrinax, and Zombia, with which it shares morphological similarities. The genus was revised taxonomically in 2008 when Leucothrinax morrisii was segregated from Thrinax based on phylogenetic evidence.
