Agathidium
slime mold beetles
Agathidium is a genus of small beetles in the family Leiodidae, notable as the largest insect group documented that principally feeds on slime moulds. The genus includes approximately 100 described species distributed primarily across the Holarctic region. Several species have gained public attention through their unconventional scientific names honoring political figures and fictional characters. Some species possess the ability to roll into a nearly complete sphere, and males of certain species exhibit asymmetrical mandibular horns used in combat and courtship.
Dryadaula
Dryadaula is a genus of small moths in the family Dryadaulidae (formerly placed in Tineidae), established by Edward Meyrick in 1893. The genus comprises approximately 60 described species distributed across the Palaearctic region, with additional records from Hawaii and other regions. Species are characterized by small size (wingspans typically 7-15 mm), inconspicuous coloration, and concealed lifestyles associated with dead wood and fungal habitats. Several species have been described in recent decades, including four new species from China in 2021 and one from Japan in 2024, indicating ongoing taxonomic discovery.
Fumontana
Fumontana is a monotypic genus of harvestman (Opiliones: Laniatores) containing the single species F. deprehendor. It is considered an ancient relict lineage with Gondwanan affinities, currently restricted to the southern Appalachian Mountains of the eastern United States. The genus name derives from Latin words for 'smoke' and 'mountain', referencing its discovery in the Great Smoky Mountains.
