Pyrausta socialis is a crambid described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1877. The occurs across northern and western North America, with records from Ontario westward to British Columbia and south to Montana and Colorado. Two are recognized: the nominate form and P. s. perpallidalis described from Washington and Oregon. As a member of the snout moth , it possesses the elongated labial palps characteristic of Crambidae.
