Electrostrymon is a of Neotropical butterflies in the Lycaenidae, established by Clench in 1961. The genus comprises approximately 16 recognized , including the widespread endymion hairstreak (E. endymion) and the recently described high-elevation species E. picoloro from western Colombia. Species occur across diverse elevations from lowland forests to paramo above 2800 m, though most species inhabit lower and middle elevations. The genus is characterized by typical hairstreak with slender bodies and often intricate wing patterns.

Identification
Electrostrymon are distinguished from other Eumaeini hairstreaks by combinations of wing patterns and male genitalic structures. E. picoloro is uniquely identifiable among by its distinctive ventral wing pattern and genitalic ; it is also the only known species restricted to elevations above 2800 m. Most species require examination of genitalic characters for definitive identification.

Habitat
range from lowland tropical forests to high elevation cloud forests and paramo. E. picoloro is known only from high elevation habitats above 2800 m in the Farallones de Cali, western Colombia. Other occupy diverse Neotropical forest at lower and middle elevations.
Distribution
Neotropical region. E. picoloro is known only from western Colombia (Farallones de Cali, Pico de Loro). Other occur more broadly across Central and South America and the Caribbean, with individual species having restricted or widespread ranges.
Similar Taxa
- Other Eumaeini generaElectrostrymon shares the slender-bodied with numerous other Eumaeini ; reliable differentiation requires examination of genitalic structures and detailed wing pattern analysis.

Phylogenetic note
Phylogenetic analysis indicates that E. picoloro is sister to a multi- clade within Electrostrymon. The ancestral lineage of E. picoloro colonized high elevation relatively early in the evolutionary history of the , but subsequently showed evolutionary stasis: no recolonization of lower elevations and no diversification into other extant species.
