Psammathodoxa is a of in the Erebidae, Calpinae. The genus was established by Harrison Gray Dyar Jr. in 1921 and contains two described : P. cochlidioides from Texas, USA, and P. natadoides from Rica. It is a rarely encountered group with limited biological documentation.

Taxonomic history

Originally described by Dyar in 1921. The was long classified within Noctuidae but is now placed in Erebidae following molecular phylogenetic revisions of the superfamily Noctuoidea.

Species diversity

Only two have been formally described: Psammathodoxa cochlidioides (type species, Texas) and Psammathodoxa natadoides ( Rica). The appears to be genuinely rare rather than merely undercollected, based on limited museum holdings and few iNaturalist observations.
