Elachista irrorata

Braun, 1920

A small North American in the Elachistidae, described by Braun in 1920. have a wingspan of 8.2–11 mm and are active from March through October. The larvae are leaf miners that feed on two specific grass : Glyceria striata and Agrostis perennans, with larval activity occurring in April and May. The species is recorded from 11 states/provinces in the eastern United States and Ontario, Canada.

Distribution

Eastern North America: recorded from Illinois, Indiana, Maine, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Ontario (Canada), Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Seasonality

active March to October; larvae present April to May.

Diet

Larvae feed on Glyceria striata and Agrostis perennans, mining the leaves of these grasses.

Life Cycle

Larval stage occurs in April and May; emerge and are active from March through October, suggesting overlapping or an extended period.

Behavior

Larvae create leaf mines in plant foliage.
