Kudakrumiinae
Genus Guides
1Kudakrumiinae is a of darkling beetles (Tenebrionidae) established to accommodate a small group of with distinctive morphological features. The subfamily was erected relatively recently in and remains poorly studied compared to larger tenebrionid subfamilies. Members are primarily distributed in arid and semi-arid regions, with most records coming from Central Asia and adjacent areas. The group appears to represent an early-diverging lineage within Tenebrionidae based on morphological evidence.

Identification
Kudakrumiinae can be distinguished from other Tenebrionidae by a combination of tarsal and antennal characters, including the structure of the tarsal lobes and the form of the antennal club. The prosternal process is typically broad and not strongly constricted. Unlike Pimeliinae, they lack the strongly elongated legs and body form associated with psammophily. The are generally complete and not abbreviated. These features require examination of preserved specimens and are not readily assessed from photographs alone.
Habitat
of Kudakrumiinae inhabit arid and semi-arid environments, including steppe, semi-desert, and desert edge . They occur in open terrain with sparse vegetation, often on clay, loess, or rocky substrates rather than loose sand. The appears to favor moderately compacted soils where vegetation is present but not dense.
Distribution
The is distributed across Central Asia, with records from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and adjacent regions of northwestern China and southern Russia. The range corresponds broadly to the Turanian and Kazakhian biogeographic provinces.
Similar Taxa
- PimeliinaePimeliinae includes many desert-dwelling Tenebrionidae with which Kudakrumiinae may co-occur, but Pimeliinae typically show more pronounced psammophilic adaptations including elongated legs and body form for moving on loose sand.
- TenebrioninaeTenebrioninae is a large and diverse that overlaps with Kudakrumiinae in general body plan; Kudakrumiinae is distinguished by tarsal and antennal characters not found in Tenebrioninae.

Taxonomic history
Kudakrumiinae was established by K. D. Kiyak in 1990, with the Kudakrumia as its type. The was created to accommodate genera previously placed in Tenebrioninae or Pimeliinae that did not fit comfortably in either group. The classification has been adopted in some regional faunas but remains provisional pending comprehensive phylogenetic study.
