Taxonomic history

Originally described by Gaumont in 1920. Recent integrative taxonomic study (2025) in South Korea revealed hidden diversity, describing new M. koreanus sp. nov. and supporting four distinct species: M. submacula, M. sijpkensi, M. paiki, and M. koreanus sp. nov. COI divergence between M. koreanus and M. submacula exceeded 2.4%, surpassing typical barcode gap.
