Taxonomic History
The was revised by J. Polhemus in 1964, who described I. cobbeni, and later by McKinnon & J. Polhemus in 1986 with the description of I. chapmani. Several were originally described in other genera and later transferred to Ioscytus.
Species Diversity
The seven described are: I. beameri, I. chapmani, I. cobbeni, I. franciscanus, I. nasti, I. politus, and I. tepidarius. I. politus, described by Uhler in 1877, is the oldest described species in the .
