Nephrotoma ferruginea is a large in the , commonly known as the Tiger Crane Fly. The was described by Fabricius in 1805 and includes two recognized : N. f. ferruginea and N. f. surtularis. It is widely distributed across North America, with records extending from Alaska and northern Canada south to Arizona, Texas, and the southeastern United States, and has also been documented in parts of Europe including the Netherlands and Spain.
