Taxonomic placement

Usechus is the type of the tribe Usechini, which is placed in the Zopherinae of Zopheridae. The family Zopheridae was historically treated as part of Tenebrionidae but is now recognized as a distinct family within the superfamily Tenebrionoidea.

Species inventory

The currently includes two recognized : Usechus lacerta Motschulsky, 1845 (the type species) and Usechus nucleatus Casey, 1889. The limited number of described species suggests the genus may be poorly collected or genuinely species-poor.
