Taxonomic history

Originally described as Lathrimaeum subcostatum by Mäklin in 1852. Transferred to Deinopteroloma by Newton 1985 when the was moved from Silphidae to Staphylinidae (Omaliinae). The genus Mathrilaeum was synonymized with Deinopteroloma in the same revision.

Systematic position

Belongs to the Anthobium group of within the tribe Anthophagini, Omaliinae. This placement reflects its intermediate between typical rove beetles and the historically associated carrion beetles (Silphidae).
