Misconceptions

The name 'Mesites' has been applied to unrelated : it is the plural form for mesites ( Mesitornithidae), a group of Malagasy birds, and was formerly used as a synonym for the sea cucumber Mesothuria. These usages refer to entirely different organisms and should not be confused with the weevil genus.
