Stomis is a of ground beetles in the Carabidae, tribe Pterostichini, established by Clairville in 1806. The genus contains more than 40 described distributed across woodland in Europe and Asia, with particular diversity in China. Chinese species have been organized into five species-groups based on morphological characteristics. Species-level within Stomis has undergone significant revision, with numerous synonymizations and new described in recent decades.

Chinese of Stomis can be identified using morphological characters including body size and proportions, pronotum shape and constriction pattern, size relative to body, length, elytral shape (rounded versus flattened), and striation depth and punctation. Europe (Denmark, Norway, Sweden recorded) and Asia, with highest diversity in China. Chinese records include eastern Sichuan, western Shaanxi, Hubei, Henan, and Yunnan.
