Aciurina ferruginea
Medusa Gall Tephritid
Aciurina ferruginea is a gall-forming tephritid fly known as the Medusa Gall Tephritid. It forms distinctive pear-shaped galls on Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus (sticky rabbitbrush) by ovipositing eggs into axillary bud exudate. Adults exhibit visual communication through wing displays, which likely function in species recognition and courtship. The species has been documented in the western United States.
Habronattus cfhirsutus
A species of jumping spider in the genus Habronattus, part of a diverse North American lineage known for elaborate courtship displays. The specific epithet suggests possible confusion with or comparison to H. hirsutus. Like other Habronattus species, it is presumed to be a small, ground-dwelling hunter with visual and vibratory communication during mating.
