Dicellurata
Forcepstails
Dicellurata is a suborder of Diplura, commonly called forcepstails, characterized by the presence of paired, forceps-like cerci at the posterior end. The group comprises at least 4 families and more than 170 described species. Members are small, eyeless hexapods that inhabit soil and leaf litter environments.
Hypomachilodes
Hypomachilodes is a genus of rock bristletails (Archaeognatha) in the family Meinertellidae. The genus was established by Silvestri in 1911 and contains at least two described species: H. texanus (the type species) from Texas and H. forthaysi described in 2010. Like other Meinertellidae, members of this genus lack scales at the base of the legs and antennae, distinguishing them from the related Machilidae.
Lophognathellinae
A subfamily of springtails within the family Onychiuridae, distinguished by modifications of the mouthparts. Members of this group are small, soil-dwelling hexapods that lack a furcula (springing organ) as adults. The subfamily was established by Stach in 1954 based on distinctive gnathal morphology.
Machiloides banksi
rock bristletail
Machiloides banksi is a species of rock bristletail described by Filippo Silvestri in 1911. It belongs to the family Meinertellidae, a group of basal insects in the order Archaeognatha. The species is known from the eastern United States. Like other Archaeognatha, it represents one of the most primitive lineages of living insects, retaining ancestral characteristics such as the ability to spring using its caudal filaments.
Microcoryphia
bristletails
Microcoryphia is an order of wingless hexapods commonly known as bristletails, representing one of the two extant orders of apterygote insects. They retain numerous ancestral characteristics that make them significant for understanding early insect evolution, including monocondylic mandibles and the ability to molt throughout their entire life. The group is distinguished by their laterally compressed bodies, large compound eyes, and three long caudal filaments. Approximately 500 species have been described worldwide, with new species continuing to be discovered in diverse habitats including leaf litter, rocky areas, and caves.
Pedetontus saltator
jumping bristletail
Pedetontus saltator is a species of jumping bristletail, a primitive wingless insect in the family Machilidae. It is found in North America, including records from Vermont in the United States. As a member of Archaeognatha, it represents one of the most basal lineages of living insects, retaining characteristics of early insect evolution.
Texoreddellia
Texoreddellia is a monotypic genus of nicoletiid silverfish described by Wygodzinsky in 1973. The genus contains a single described species, Texoreddellia texensis. As a member of Nicoletiidae, it belongs to a family of small, eyeless, wingless insects adapted to subterranean or cryptic habitats. The genus is known from limited observations and specimens.
