Sermyle is a of stick insects (Phasmida) in the Diapheromeridae, first described by Stål in 1875. The genus belongs to the Diapheromerinae and tribe Diapheromerini. Members of this genus are distributed across the Americas, with records from both North and South America. As with other Diapheromeridae, these insects exhibit cryptic resembling twigs or stems.

Taxonomic Note

The name 'Sermyle' originates from the Ancient Greek town Sermylia (Σερμυλία), also known as Sermyle, located in Chalcidice. The Toronaic Gulf was alternatively called Sermylicus Sinus after this town. This historical geographic reference was applied by Stål when establishing the in 1875.
