Distinguished from the congeneric Orphulella speciosa by structural features of the and pronotum. O. pelidna possesses a larger semicircular depression on the vertex that is set farther back from the fastigium, and the lateral carinae of the pronotum are incised twice (occasionally three times), compared to the single incision in O. speciosa. O. pelidna is also larger in overall body size than O. speciosa.
