Taxonomic history

The was originally described by Hewitson in 1867 under the basionym Emesis emesia. It has since been transferred to the Curvie, though the former combination remains in use as a synonym. Two are recognized: C. e. emesia and C. e. yucatanensis (described by Godman & Salvin, 1886).
