Misconceptions

The name Arachnis is shared between two unrelated : this (Animalia: Lepidoptera) and a genus of orchids (Plantae: Orchidaceae) described by Blume in 1825. The orchid genus includes such as Arachnis flos-aeris and the critically endangered Arachnis senapatiana. These are entirely separate lineages with no biological relationship; the shared name results from independent taxonomic descriptions.
