Liosphex is a of in the Rhopalosomatidae, established by Townes in 1977. The genus contains fourteen , twelve of which were described in a 2010 taxonomic revision. Species occur across the Neotropical region from Central America to southern South America, with one species extending into the southeastern United States. Members of Rhopalosomatidae are known to be of crickets.

Taxonomic History

The was revised in 2010 by Lohrmann, who described twelve new and provided the first description of the male of L. trichopleurum. The original description of L. varius was based on a heterogeneous type series containing specimens from different species, necessitating redescription.
