The epithet 'menziesiae' is a Latin genitive form honoring Archibald Menzies (1754–1842), Scottish surgeon and naturalist, or referring to the plant Menziesia named after him. The 'Rusty Menziesia ' appears to be a preferred name on iNaturalist but has not been widely adopted in scientific literature.
